LCFG is a system for automatically installing and managing the configuration of large numbers of Unix systems. It is particularly suitable for sites with very diverse and rapidly changing configurations.
A good overview is available in this paper. Further details are available in the FAQ and the documentation. There is also an archived mailing list for discussions and announcements. All LCFG software is freely available under the GPL. See the download section.
Meetings
We hold regular meetings on the first Thursday of each month for all those interested in LCFG. The meeting starts at 14:15 and typically lasts for one hour. The meeting is now held in a hybrid form, you may attend either in-person in room 7.14 of the Appleton Tower or virtually using Microsoft Teams. Anyone who is using LCFG (or is thinking of doing so) is very welcome.
At the end of each year we hold an annual review meeting. Also, a number of LCFG Users Days and other meetings have been held. See the see the LCFG wiki for further details.
LCFG Book Available
A book on LCFG, written by Paul Anderson, titled "LCFG: A Practical Tool for System Configuration" has been released. This is part of the SAGE Short Topics in System Administration series. There is a web page where you can purchase a copy of the print version. If you are SAGE member you can also download a free PDF copy. We also have an additional information and errata page.
